M416 for my CJ7

Hard decision on the CJ, but I never drove it enough. It sat all the time and the Grand Cherokee is going to serve as a better platform for towing and everyday use. Plus I made a pretty good profit on it, so that doesn't hurt.

Plan from now until March/April:
-Finish swing out
-Line the inside and underside of the tub
-Either new axle and matching MOAB wheel and tires or new military tires and tubes
-If I go matching tires I need to modify fenders
-Rod Holder mounted to Trac Rac
-Paint trailer tub to match Grand Cherokee

Finished mounting my Trac Rac for the canoe and kayak. I ordered a set of j hook style kayak mounts. Those should be in this week, I will have to modify the mounts so that they will work with the slot on top of the Trac Rac.

I also finished mounting the HF Tongue Box and put the fenders back on in plans for the matching tires and wheels. I ordered wheel adapters from adaptitusa.com that will be in in a few weeks. Picking up a set of wheels on Wednesday.

Got the adapters in today, threw them on temporarily to make sure they fit. Will take them back off and apply loc tite. They fit well, but I will most likely add two to three inches to the current fenders to get better wheel coverage.

Does anyone know the thickness of the metal on the fenders offhand?

Got the new wheels and tires mounted, definitely going to have to do something with the fenders. I'll either add more metal to the original ones or buy aftermarket ones. Any suggestions on vendors?

It crossed my mind, but the issues is the lip on the outer part of the fender. I feel it's too close to the tire. Yet to make my mind up yet, one of the fenders is a little tweaked too.

I did get it out of the garage today to make a run to my storage unit. Rolled great.

If you cut that lip, they make a style of flare that would work. I used that style on my fenders (made by bending sheet) - here's a pic for reference:

Again, not trying to talk you into anything. Just giving info. I'm sure whatever you go with will look great.

Can you tell me how long you extended the front cross bars. We're these just Box Beams or square tubing? What's the lenght from end to end.

Thanks in advance,
Ken

Yep, I followed Brian's thread as an example. 2x3 box tubing, drilled holes up through the bottom plate on the frame and attached riv nuts to the tubing. I also used some carriage bolts down through the tubing into the frame plate for added security. I also set up a laser and mocked everything up to make sure it was triangulated properly.

I finally found a set of tail lights with full lenses. I am converting them to LED using some trailer lights from Amazon.

I am going to meet with a fabricator tomorrow to have some tube fenders built. I am stealing someone else's idea from this forum and using Metalcloak's Lock Ball for each end. After that, it just needs to be painted and it will be "done" for now.
