What did I get myself into?

I feel your pain with dealing with all the rust. You're making some good progress, it's really starting to take shape. I like the toyota wheels, going to look pretty sharp when you're done!

Had some time this morning to puts around a little bit so I went ahead and installed the tongue box.. Believe it or not, I actually have plenty of room and the box doesn't contact even when close to full jackknife but I think I might need to look into getting a tongue extension, perhaps 12-14 inches or so

Moving right along...

Finally got the final RTT bar configuration mounted.. 48" yakima bars cut down to 46" with yakima clamps

Also got the yakima bike rack test fitted.. It's perfectly centered and aligned, however, it flexes quite a bit so I'll need to figure out how to brace it some more.. I have some leftover angle iron that I'm thinking of mounting across the back to complete the "rectangle" of the surface mounting... That should stiffen it up completely

Also, got the beverage access device in the mail today, will mount it to the front bulkhead on the passenger side

One more piece of the puzzle showed up today....courtesy of FedEx

I had a slight brain fart.... While I extended out the hub face about three inches outward, I didn't have the rims when I ordered it and now that I came into a set of the 4th generation 4runner wheels, they have 30mm of offset which negates the extra distance that I ordered so I'll be picking up a set of wheel spacers locally to get the proper stance... Oops! But the silver lining here is that since the wheel studs on the trailer are 1/2 inch and the toyota pattern is 12x1.5... It'll allow me to run regular lug nuts this way

Judgement Day

Two storms and Bitter cold is forecast for later this week and into next so I decided to just go ahead and finish up the trailer and boy am I glad I did... It rides great, looks great and tows like a dream.. Only issue I may have now is that the tires stick out past the fenders a fair amount due to the spacers but they were necessary as I have barely just enough clearance on the inside

Another thaw day with a cold front on the way... Decided to make some adjustments to the RTT and the ladder as it didn't have a spot for the lower setting

Also notched out a space in the plate that runs under the trailer for the feet of the hi lift jack that I picked up for 20 dollars to use just as an stablizer jack as I couldn't find any bolt on legs that were long enough or cheap enough... PO rattle canned it lime green

Started some prep work for the tongue extension as I have a Max Coupler on the way.... Will be PB blasting the heck out of this thing for the next few days... There's no rust in this area, it's all nasty chipping layers of 70 year old paint

Thought I should bump this thread.... It's not done yet but the welder sent me this picture earlier today of the tongue extension that's being done... It is a 18 inch extension that will have a max coupler going into it.... I got inspiration for this from Robert Bills and TacoDell

Should be all done by Sunday

Picked the trailer up from the welder... Pardon the sloppiness of the chains, I haven't figured out the final configuration just yet Waiting until daylight to spray bomb it with bedliner than it'll be good to go..

Compliments on the build

I like what you've done the trailer. Some of the detail you show in your photos has given me some ideas for security. Getting ready to kick off the breakdown and build up within the month. I think I'll add stake pockets and create a removable security deck, so i can park at the occasional hotel and not have unload the thing to sleep over night. Thanks for sharing.

P.S. I really miss my 96 4runner. They're awesome.

where did ya pick up the axel, and what did it end up running you? Just curious, I have toyed with the Idea of getting some hub converters, but I don't like the idea of having the tires sticking out an extra 2 inches.

Posted elsewhere but wanted to add to my build thread for record keeping..

Installing my new 5 lb propane tank and bracket from AT onto the front of the tongue box of my Bantam.. Originally had wanted to mount it to the side as I often see but I felt that since it was still the original 70 year old metal and it hasn't been rehabilitated yet and there would have been no support on the bottom, it wouldn't have been as strong as I would have liked it to be.

I realized there was going to be some interference with the lid as the handle sits flush to the side but then I had an eureka moment and realized that if I angled the locking mechanism down just 1/8", the lid would close fully onto the curved part of the handle and presto! A locking lockbox AND propane tank lock.... Truly killed two birds with one stone here

The lock is still accessible for locking/unlocking through the hole in the neck

Pics....
