But why? What was Ford's intent? Did they partner with Nissan or manufacture separately on their own? Did they have longer term plans or strategy of bringing the Maverick to the US market? Does the Bronco resemble Ford's attempt in the US market to recreate the GQ/Y60? Asking lots of questions because it seems the Maverick might do well in the US market.

Not bad Jampatrol, thanks for the link to the article.

To add to it slightly;

The 160-series engines you mentioned but left out models on is the P40 and the L28. The P40 dates way back to the 50's or earlier, it is the grandfather of all Patrol inline-six engines. The L28, well that was developed for Nissan/Datsun cars.

In Australia, 70% or more of off-road competitions are raced and won by Patrols. Even many of the other trucks run Patrol axles. For decades the Patrol axles were the axles to have in a competition truck. In the last few years they have been going the way of more USA spec axles like the D60 but the Patrol axles are still very popular. Even Cruisers are seen there with Patrol axles swapped in.

You barely mentioned the 60-series Patrols, pre-1980 but it should be said the the 60-series Patrol was the first vehicle to cross the Simpson Desert in Australia.

Patrols were the Indian Army vehicle of choice from 1969 to the mid-90's It was manufactured in India and called the Nissan Jonga.

Other countries around the world the Patrol is the number one truck with large followings. These countries include Colombia, Panama, Thailand, Spain and others. Youw ill find Patrols are extremely popular in these countries.

And since this is an overland forum....the Y60/61 Patrols, the JDM spec ones so the Safari's had an optional model that came from Nissan kitted out for overland travel. Sink in the back, bed, drawers, ect ect. From the factory! In all fairness, Toyota did have the same with the JDM 80-series Cruisers.

Cheers

The Ford Maverick was built under the Button Car Plan which is in the following link:
