Most of us can't (or think we can't) drop everything and take off for a year or longer to see the world. If we're lucky, we can arrange for a two week vacation each year. Here's a story of a fellow who takes the time available to him to travel by motorbike in southeast Asia.

Ken Preston is a Seattle-based author and photographer. Ken developed an affinity for the people of Vietnam during his military service in the late 1960s. Ken is now on his ninth return visit to Vietnam to study the artisans who make wooden boats. You can see Ken's reports on his website www.boatsandrice.com

Starting in Hanoi, Ken travels around Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos on a Chinese-made Lifan motorbike, a copy of a 1980s vintage Honda. Read Ken's travel blog, well written and with loads of photos, here
