Land Nav-How To

What are some good books, tutorials, classes, etc. that are quality lessons in land navigation. I am talking about the ole map and compass methods. Its been over a dozen years since I learned any of this from the military, and even then it was very basic.
I'd like to learn the ropes and no longer rely on GPS and worrying about losing battery or signal along the way.

My goal is to be able to find my way on and off trail confidently.

Thanks for the Help,
Jeremy

I picked up a copy of Staying Found - The Complete Map and Compass Handbook by June Fleming.
between reading this book (I'm sure others are equally informational) and getting outside with a map and compass practicing, I'm confident in my navigation abilities.
Luckily for me there is a preset nav course at a nearby state park. That made thing easier but hey double check your accuracy with a GPS.

550cord.com has a great military training program that is available for purchase. It is the best program I have seen for the basics. I have trained a couple thousand Soldiers with it, and my SAR unit is now using it.
