To run air tools like a ratchet on the trail , you're gonna want at least 5 cfm pushing them . It's going to be hard to find a 12v electric compressor that will get you 5 cfm ... This dual ARB is rated for 6cfm , but it's also over $500...

You really do want 100% duty cycle , anything less and you're going to be maxing it out and waiting for it to cool off ...

It depend on your needs and expectations. I can loosen (105ft/lbs) all 6 of my lugs, then remove them without waiting using an IR 3/8" gun and a PUMA. PUMA has no duty and can run for hours. You are 100% correct if you are trying run tools continuous but if that is you intent no 12v is not going to live up to your needs.

Those of you running the pumps under the truck, aren't you worried about water intrusion?

The intended use for my OBA setup is to air my tires back up after wheeling... plus adding an air horn for LOLs. It will also run my front locker when I get one. Mostly, I just don't wanna get stuck in the middle of nowhere without air.

I'm definitely not going to run air tools a lot.

I may sell my Viair to some kid with air-ride on his civic and get a better compressor. I didn't know any better when I bought this one. :p

How many amps do those PUMA's pull?

I installed a Gall's fused 3 port accessory on the bed cap rail......but I think its only 20AMP rated

I wired the 3 hole box with 10g wire

I could either tie into the wiring for the 3 outlet box, or solder in a cigarette lighter plug into the Puma wiring?

I was thinking about mounting on the side shelf next to my tool chest

I am going to be trying the smittybilt compressor after Christmas. Along with a bunch of their products. The dealer is a business associate and im getting a good deal on the parts. I know that very soon after I will have to powdercoat the bumpers and stuff. I am a powder coater by trade so Its probably going to be done before they get installed. But im going with atlas bumpers and rockerguards all around. Plus all their little trail goodies as well.

well I used to have a viair 550c. but it just didn't cut it. you know viair states you are supposed to have your engine running while using their compressor's. so I figured if I had to have my engine running why not just do this.

wow what a difference no comparison. highdesertranger

Do these engine-driven compressors have a clutch? or do they run 100% of the time the engine is running?
