After reading threads after threads of adventures, I figured I would contribute and post a thread of adventure I did back in September 2014.
My gf and I took 10 days off to leave busy life of NYC and toured around New England, with final destination being Acadia NP.
Took my recently acquired stock Nissan Xterra Pro-4X, which completed the trip without an issue and averaged about 19mpg.
The trip involved eating delicious local food (lot of ice cream), sight seeing, hiking, and biking. As for sleeping, we mixed up between primitive camping, KOA camping, and hotels to keep peace with my gf. Unfortunately, she took most of the pictures, so all I have is pictures I took with my phone. Also, some pictures may be out of order...
Here is the rough route I took for the trip
All packed and ready to go!
Looking for a campsite at Grout Pond in Green Mountain NF. It may look easy from the picture but... actually it was easy. 4WD not required. This was a semi-primitive campsite that operated on donations. I threw in $15.
Someone was NOT happy to see this sign on the first night
Not a bad view. Unfortunately, it was too cold to swim.
Next morning we went to Beinnginton, VT. Unfortunately no picture of the town, just the journey.
Then we drove to Burlington, VT. I tried to avoid interstate highway as conveniently as possible. We walked around the town, went shopping, had local food, and biked on Island Line Trail, which required taking a 5 second ferry to Lake Champlain (http://archive.burlingtonfreepress.com/article/20130418/NEWS02/304180033/Walk-bike-ferry-service-to-re-open-on-Lake-Champlain). Again, no pictures. We also stayed at Marriot that night.
Hiking Mount Lafayette in White Mountain. Took us 7 hours to complete.
Stayed at Wild River Campground in White Mountain NF. Portable shower and dryer.
Driving up Mount Washington
Train tracks at the summit
Line to take a picture with the summit sign
Can you spot the X?
