Default Partner needed Copper Canyon, Mexico, 2-8 APRIL, 2007

On my return to Guatemala this year I'm considering a trip through the Copper Canyon. This would be a start date of about April 2 or so from ElPaso area. I found that this is a decent time as it is before the heat of summer so rivers are not too bad. If you are interested let me know via posting here or PM.
I will not be risking it solo due to river crossings etc. so without a partner truck or two this will not happen and we'll simply bypass Copper Canyon for this year.

There are several nice routes which do not require water crossings. I would recommend the Choix to Mesa de Arturo to Cerocahui (sp?) as particularly spectacular.

Wish I could go along with you

Basically follow the rail line from Creel to Bahuichivo then south from there through Cerocahui, Mesa de Arturo and Choix? Is that right? No river crossings on this route? Any recommendations on places to stay as I assume one would not want to just rush through? We're used to Mexican and Central American accomodations so we don't need fancy, just safe and a secure place for the vehicle if possible!

Yes, Creel along the rail track route to Cerocahui. There is a great little motel in town owned by Justin Lopez of Rosen's Rides. Justin is very knowledgeable of the area:

From Cerocahui, the route heads South to Mesa de Arturo, where you can take a detour to Urique (the county seat). From Mesa de Arturo the route continues south to Tubares and the bridged crossing (new) of the Rio Fuerte. From the bridge, it is easy gravel road all the way to Choix.

    A beautiful route IMO.

    HTML Code:
Should water levels be high, the town is reported to have a rope-operated ferry to escort vehicles across. We promptly begin another series of challenging, yet no less beautiful mountain passes
    This could be interesting!

Sorry, I just noticed that the title did NOT get revised. Perhaps a moderator can edit the thread title. The dates are 2-8 APRIL, 2007.

If only this were a July trip I would love to join you. As it is, I hope that you can find someone b/w now and next week. Best of luck, have fun, and be safe.
