Super Raptor

I have worked on MANY cummins engines in my time with over 1 million miles on them. Well taken care of and still running strong. I have never seen a 7.3 with that kind of longevity and I have been working on them since international put out the first 6.9L v8 diesels! YES! They are good engines in general. Yes they last well. However personally I think the Cummins is a notch above.

60k mile 2002 Dmax. Small tune, Trutrac/E-locker, Atlas leaves, Cognito mid travel, Icons, OBA, AirDog, 62 gallon Titan tank.... etc.

Rides better than a Raptor

Have fun with building it, there's so much awesome in a ************ 3/4 ton.

There are a number of reasons for the Cummins. First the engine that is in it has 450,000 miles on it and is TIRED! Second is mileage. The Cummins is capable of really good milage in the 20 and up MPG range even in a truck that weighs 8000 pounds. Those along with awesome power output capabilities, easy tuning, great reliability, no more glow plugs to worry about and if nothing else than I was a Cummins truck mechanic for 17 years. Someone else said it here and I titled this thread with "Ultimate Truck" because it really is MY ultimate truck.
Good reasons as any, carry on with the build!

And speaking of Raptors, I was shown today a website where someone put a Raptor interiors and driveline in a OBS Bronco - while I do not care much for either the stock OBS or the Raptor's interiors, it all appeared very well executed.

Continuing! Seems like I always have to spend way too much time doing the dirty work before I get to do the fun stuff! Here we see a gutted truck and the "new" engine waiting for cleaning and building!
Been doing some research and I think I might swap out the stock Dana 50 front end for a Dana 60 with a free floating wheel bearing conversion. I think I can do it for the same price.

Now THAT is a neked truck! I spent the whole day finishing stripping and cleaning this truck. Pressure washed inside and out. It is amazing how dirty a rig gets in 13 years of use. It's on jack stands and ready to pull and rebuild the rear ends and suspension.

Well I'm finished going backward and turning the corner. Next is rebuild both front and rear axles and suspension then on to the motor rebuild and install. I got the interior stripped, cleaned and put the dash back in. BOY WHAT A JOB! I'll NEVER do that again. They should shoot some engineers!IMG_20150220_125238_217.jpgIMG_20150220_165701_490.jpg

I call it the black hole! Stripped, cleaned, painted and undercoated waiting for the beating heart I am about to build.IMG_20150221_151543_404.jpg The not so beating heart before resuscitation! This is actually completely torn down awaiting parts and some minor machine work. It'll get a new "Big Stick" cam along with all new internals, a rebuild head, fuel pump and injectors. Essentially it'll be a new engine along with a John woods tow master trans, rebuilt transfer case, rebuilt front and rear diffs along with all new suspension, brakes and steering components. Most of it is ordered and Christmas is nearing my door!

And LOTS of labor! rear ends are first the on up the train. Just the trans is $4,000. Important stuff in the long run. Next BIG investment is body, fender and paint. $10,000 approximately. On and on! The fun stuff is just starting!

Looks good so far man!! Wish I had a shop/garage I could fit mine in, but my garage only fits my Lightning.

24 valve with a VP44 IP, my favorite Cummins. Just needs a good lift pump. Nice build you have going. Have you seen the Diesel Power Products Superduty Raptor?
