Just like the title says. Post up the year or estimated year of your flip pac and if your torsion bar is still intact or if you had any issues with it. Maybe we can find a trend of which batch was defective or installed incorrectly.

1st Flippac was purchased by 1st owner in 06. I was the second. It lasted till the Flippac was involved in a rollover in 2012. My friend who bought it lived in it for 5 months straight. Between 3 owners the uses are unknown.
Second Flippac installed new December 2013. Broke July 2014 with maybe 10 uses. Supposedly the replacement is on the way to me but I have heard that many times over the last 4 months.
A buddy that bought one used 7 years ago says his average length is about 3 years.

2 Questions.
1. What does a broken torsion bar look like? How did you know? Loud pop?
2. If the lid broke on a trip, does it close so you can get home? I do so many trips were I open and shut the top a couple of times a day, and now concerned (this site is as bad as Mud making me worry about my 80 series head gasket.)

Didn't Viking Vince use his FP for years with a broken torsion bar?

At this point, it seems that there are more failures for flippacs that were manufactured or purchased in the last 10 years.

Older flippac owners, chime in.

When did Vince's torsion bar break?

Mine is a 1994 made by Six-Pac. As far as I know, it has not been replaced and I have had no problems thus far.

Ok,
it's been 4+ months of calling FRP. Still no bar, still no honesty. Has anyone found a viable torsion bar replacement (manufacturer) not a delete?

I'd look for some characteristics in climate as causal factors. I live in Central California. It is a very moderate climate. Never very cold or hot. Rains in the winter. Otherwise very dry. I am beginning to wonder if a more extreme climate is a contributing factor. The bar on my 2003 FP is original and seems fine. (I do have a used spare on hand just in case...)

I wonder if temperature swings from hot to cold and back causes problem? Wet and rainy climates?

Thoughts?
