This 7 minute Youtube video shares insights gained while using iPhones to create a short movie called "Romance in New York." The movie is primarily shot from the point of view of the male half of a heterosexual couple in a love relationship.

One insight: Rather than use some sort of mechanical video stabilizer, they chose to use a large GorillaPod to hold the iPhone in camera mode. Two legs of the tripod rested on the filmmaker's cheekbones, and the third was used as a handle. (Look at the 1:50 mark of the video for an example.) The resulting video has some jiggling that the director says help immerse the audience in the actor's point of view. Add a stabilizer, and the video looked like the actor was gliding around on rails.

Using the iPhone had an advantage when filming on location. People's use of smartphones for selfies and short video is ubiquitous. The filmmaker and actress could proceed to shoot in public without causing much reaction from others. Business owners were more likely to approve filming in their establishments when they learned that the business (for example, a restaurant or a clothing store) could remain open during production.
