loosened up the timing belt and just pulled it out. thankfully i didn't rent a puller before this. Duhhhhhhhhhh. easy does it. thanks for all the help once again! now i've gotta take the heads off and clean everything, new seals/gaskets & water pump.

You will want to replace the head bolts while you are at it. They are one time use items. A set should cost you about $45.00 max.
