The Fifteen Dollar Diesel Tune-up

My 300GD has a OM617A engine that I'm guessing has about 150K on it. It was running a little rough and had cold start issues. I've already done the usual and was considering cleaning or replacing the injectors when I read about a Diesel Purge. I ran two cans of Liqui Moli through the engine and it made a HUGE performance improvement. More power, quieter, better at idle, improved mileage, more responsive and no more cold start issues. The entire process only took about an 30 minutes, then I spent three hours putting together instructions with photos.

Read detailed instructions here:

If you have an diesel power plant with over 100K on it, consider this quick and inexpensive tune up.

If "purge" makes a difference, you need to buy better fuel and change your filter more often.

Altering the ALDA will NOT increase maximum power. Its only job is to prevent smoke if excessive throttle is used during low boost conditions.
The effect of adjusting it is like pressing the throttle 55% instead of 50%.

If you want to increase actual power you need to adjust the pump internally.

True, but...

Over time if the Alda falls far outside of adjustment it will effect performance.
