Framing my trailer box

am in the very early stages of rebuilding old m416 military trailer. The question about how you all did floor and your sides. My plan, as of now, using 14g tread plate for the flooring. This will bolt to the existing trailer via some angle iron on the bottom of the treadplate to the cross members as well as the outside of the frame as it was originally designed. My question comes when it comes to the framing of the box. Should I build my frame for the box off of the trailer frame and cut the tread plate around the box frame? Or should I make a sort of subframe, for lack of better words, that sits on top of the tread plate? Does this make sense?
