ClimateRight heater/ac...

Anybody have any experience with these units???

I'm still in the planning stage of a ac and heater setup. I think we'll be able to go w/o a heater if need be, but this looks interesting. They say permanent mounting voids the warranty tho.

I've been leaning towards a small high efficiency window unit for the ac and a small propane catalyst heater to take the chill out at night.

Our unit will most likely be running off of a gem or shore power. Maybe a battery bank later down the road.

Any input would be great, thanks.

Seems like it would be hard for them to define "permanent mounting" as everything in life is inherently temporary...

That is an interesting concept, and looks very much like something we used to make out of small window units, for tents and camper shells on pickup trucks.

I live in NW Florida, where we routinely get temperatures of 95° with 90% humidity in the summer, so I don't think even the 5,000 BTU version would do the job for me, especially if I'm parked in the direct sunlight. Also, I don't see how an infrared (line of sight) remote control is going to work through the metal sides of a camper to the unit outside.

I'm also researching Heat & Air units for mine, but as you remember mine is now an ambulance module with a trailer tongue instead of a cab and engine up front; AKA travel trailer. I have been looking at Heat Pump Ductless Mini Split Systems, which consist of one outdoor unit and one indoor air handler. They provide heating and air conditioning for one room or area and can range from 9,000 up to 36,000 BTU of power.

Here are a few I've looked at so far:

http://www.mitsubishicomfort.com/products/single-room/product-listing/wall-mount-deluxe (if a 120 VAC model is available)

These are all very efficient (15 SEER or above), low amperage draw, very quiet inside and out, and work at extreme temperature ranges both hot and cold. The trick for me is finding a space large enough on the front wall to mount the inside unit. The outside unit can easily mount on the tongue.

doghouse ac

I ran across these a while back.

Seems people have been adopting doghouse air conditioners for small teardrops for some time.

Yea I've thought about that also...here's a vid of one setup like you want

I think we're gonna go with a window unit for easy(er) install.

Ha, that's the video that got me pointed in the Mini Split Direction in the first place.

My first option was to go with a window/wall unit AC also, and may still be what I'll do if I don't find something better. However, you don't realize how loud window units actually are until you have to use one in a very small space. Not so bad when you're sleeping (even welcome sometimes), but can be very annoying when you're watching TV, listening to music, or trying to carry on a conversacion.

I really like the mini split also, I'm just out of space for it. I'm gonna have to cut a hole in the side of her just to make it work. I still have the factory heater/ac unit above the pass through. It's still untested because of a broken fan switch. (on its way) if it's NG then I may just rip it all out. I hope it's still ok so we can at least run it while we're on the road.
