Sportsmobile moves to E-Series cutaway chassis

Ford has replaced the E-series van with the Transit, but the E-Series cutaway continues to be available. The cutaway is a favorite of upfitters, who add bodies for school buses, airport transporters, ambulances, and all manner of similar size work vehicles.

Now that the cutaway is the only model available, Sportmobile has developed a camper body that is bolted and bonded to the cutaway chassis. The new fiberglass reinforced plastic body is slightly larger, yet lighter than the steel van body.

Here are two articles describing the changes. You can see in the photos that the new body sticks out an inch or so on either side of the truck cab. The pop-up top fits flush with the sides of the new truck, too.

There's more information in this thread from last year's Overland Expo, when Sportsmobile was in the planning stage for the new body.

No diesel option? ~$125-150k? EB only?

Maybe someone will want to sell me their 7.3L RB for $50k.
