curiosity about earth roamers

What do they cost new and what if you find one would a used one cost? How competent off road are the newest models? what level of trail rating have earth roamer owners tried? For example could you drive one into Lockhart basin? probably not over the rubicon unless you were in the now discontinued jeep based now.

Same questions for a well equipped unimog?

For bang for your buck? which gets you the most capability for the least price?

Just curious in case I ever do when the lottery .

Pricing for new EarthRoamers is here:

The very first Ford F450-based units are mostly under $150K, but the newest used XV-LTs, not surprisingly, cost close to the price of a new one. When it has any, EarthRoamer lists its consignment units here:

There are no Unimog-based units available in North America on new trucks, but new cabins have been constructed for existing trucks. Unimog campers available in this country can easily be 30 or 40 years old, so pricing will range from $30K up to well over a half-million for elaborate newer units.

As far as I know, the two best examples of a US-legal, currently-for-sale large expedition truck are the new Mog-based GXV listed here at considerably less than replacement value:

and the Darrin Fink-built Fuso FM unit, one of just two ever converted for expedition use:

Both trucks exceed any reasonable overlanding requirements, being limited off-pavement almost exclusively by their size.
