Hey guys New to the radio scene going on a 14 hour trip up to Rothbury, Mi next week and looking for some good radios, obviously for traveling, but plannin on going on a lot more adventures, so would like something that has room to grow into at the same time not by overwhelming for a noobie.

I found these on amazon and seem pretty good reviews. Any guys on here have experience with Baofeng Pofung GT-5 Transceiver?

while I don't have that model I have been very very impressed with the BF radio I do have.
Beat it up on moto rides, in the 4wd and more, never an issue.

Our group has about 8 of the *Baofeng UV5RA Ham Two Way Radio 136-174/400-480 MHz Dual-Band Transceiver (Black)* and have had real good luck with. I just added a magnetic roof antenna and remote mike to mine -- makes it much easier to use. The stuff is so cheap you don't have to sweat leaving your car alone out in the back woods, too
