I ended up not needing my shackle, so I will more than likely return it to cabellas...as long as they will accept the return.

Since it's part of your recovery equip. pkg--keepit--there may be a situation that it'll really come I handy-

Late to the discussion....

In regards to shackles generally, which is better, the type with the screw in pin or the type with the bolt and cotter pin?

For off-road recovery, screw pin shackles.

Bolt type shackles are for overhead lifting, where dropped objects can kill people and break things.

Regardless of what the shackle and hitch insert is rated at by bet is most don't have a receiver rated for more than 5K. Usually it is better to have your recover points mounted directly to the frame. If you have a Unibody that many not be the case.
