Just read through this post....

You have a P4X yes? manual or auto?

Final Drive Gear Ratio's - Auto 3.36, Manual 3.69
Rear Diff M226
Front Diff R180

Many gear sets available. Look around. Do your homework. Search thenewx.org or xterranation.org for more info. Tons of guys running re-geared R180's and M205's

Edit: 4.10's for the R180. Most guys are just replacing the entire front diff, because its cheaper to do that then re-gear. You could just get the 3.69 (from a Manual Trans P4X) R180.

And, you don't need more power at altitude, you need to drive differently, try using 4lo, it's far better on the transmission anyway. I drive a 2011 P4X Auto (3.36's), it's FULLY armored, 285's, 3" lift, gear etc. Was just up in the high Uinta's (10,000 ft) last week end pulling my 2300 lb trailer, no issues.

Just did Fin's, Hell's, and 7 mile (wipeout hill) in Moab with that set up (sans trailer of course), no issues. Would lower gears help? Yes. Are they necessary? No.

That being said, I do actually need a re-gear, to aid in on road ability for trailer towing. I will be going with 4.10's

As for front diff failures.... It's about the driver, not the gears.
