Iceland on four wheels, 28 days exploring the wilderness

Next morning it was time to head north, trough the waste desserts of Iceland. This landscape can sometimes be really incredible if you take the time to look closely. But first a coffee stop after a short drive this morning.

My gps setup is not like this anymore. These got stolen later on the trip....

Airhoses go to each tire, so I can control the tire pressure from a display inside the car. I love this system. Useful on all conditions. I only take it of when going on the highway for a long time. Since the tires are so big they will change tire pressure depending on the altitude. But with this system that monitors the tire will automatically correct it when the pressure is to high or to low. And its always nice to be aired up and ready for asphalt the second you reach the asphalt road. Since you can plan ahead.

Some might not like the grey and boring landscapes. But I find it nice to be all alone for hours driving across Iceland. Its therapy to know you will most likely not meet others before the camping sites and you can sit in your own thoughts and enjoy the scenery.

Our goal and destination for this day was the camping site Laugafell. Its a small camping site in the north of Iceland. The last one before you go back down to the highway and into Akureyri. There are huts, thermal pools and toilets.

But first there is still some hours driving to get there.

Getting there, now its beer and BBQ before we hit the thermal pool

Some quick food. Got this weber grill this summer and I love it when going on trips like this.

Put up our tent. I really hope I can get a pop up truck camper before next year. It would be so much easier on trips around Iceland. I would recommend getting a big tent or a awning if you are going to Iceland. It rains a lot, so its nice to have a place where you can sit down on chairs.

Absolutt fantastisk. Takk for bildan!

I was in some of these places in 2014 in October. My car was not as nice/much smaller and we stayed mostly in west Iceland.

Was the arctic guide program you attended in Svalbard?

I am so Jealous,

If I was able to do that, my family would insist on hitting each and every natural hot springs that it would take a year to traverse Iceland :)

Awesome, I was planning on going to Iceland this past Christmas/New year but due to a motor vehicle accident I have had to postpone it. Am planning a trip this year for sure though.

The road was starting to get a little bit flooded from all the melting water, sometimes the roads get washed away.
