Iceland on four wheels, 28 days exploring the wilderness

That feeling when you are lying in the hotel bed, planning your next adventure. So eager to start to travel that you can't sleep, have no motivation to work and the only thing in your mind is to get on the plane.

Im Robin from Norway.

And this is my friend Håvard.

We are graduated Arctic Nature Guide´s. We have gone through a one-year course with Safe Guiding in the Arctic. Next week, 15 July we will start on our adventure in Iceland

Our destination, Iceland. The land of colors and volcanoes. Where you find unbeleavable nature and pretty girls. Not so many of you have heard about this small country between Norway and Greenland. But it sure is worth to have a look on this adventure.

Some of the things I'm bringing over to Iceland. Most of my outdoor gear is already in Iceland. Will be really fun to pack the truck together with Håvard. If we get the chance we will make a similar picture with the truck and all the gear. We will be climbing on the glaciers, walking in the mountains, kayaking, driving the truck, making good food and enjoy the good life in Iceland.

Is there anyone else from Expedition Portal going to Iceland from 15 July to 11 August? It would be nice to meet somewhere in the highlands.

Jeepgc to bad you are not going.

The days are going slow now. Just reading and relaxing. Checking out the conditions on Iceland on http://www.safetravel.is and http://www.road.is

These pages are good tools to use sometimes, its good to know what roads are open. If you drive on closed roads you get fined.

It is too bad :-(

If you haven't already, download the Vedur Icelandic weather app, you get all the weather warnings sent to your device - very useful to help you to prepare for tough weather conditions.

Well finally I have left for Iceland.

There was a big check in line on the airport. And I had some heavy equipment. Went in the line and waited, when the line was almost finished checked in, then they of course opened more check in desks.

I love Icelandair. They have good flights, tv in the seats with music, documentaries, movies and so on. If you are flying from America or to America you can stop over on Iceland for up to 10 days on your flight ticket.

When I landed I went trough the security check. I had my fishing equipment with me. So of course I got stopped.. They checked my baggage and I had 10 boxes of Snus (Swedish mouth tobacco) They told me it was not legal to bring it because of some stupid laws. But they let me keep it. Yeey. Next time they will take it, but they like it so much them self so I'm sure they would have kept it for themselfes. Hehe

So today I was supposed to pick up Håvard. But change of plans. Im doing a 10 day project with RedBull in the middle of this trip. So I will bring Simone, my girlfriend for the first and second part of the trip. Me and Håvard will be going on a new trip in the end of September/Oktober.

I have never had any problems getting chewing tobacco (snus) through checks here or in Mexico. Perhaps, since I have a beard I am always going through extra security checks. My neighbors used to send packages to what was then East Germany and fill up the remaining areas with popcorn kernals. Later, they would talk to them and ask about the popcorn. "What popcorn?".

Its time to finally get some free time to finish this adventure post.

After I arrived to Iceland and meet my girlfriend Simone, it was time to start prepping for the summer adventure. I got the car washed and ready to put on my company logos. Arctic Extreme.

I used a good Icelandic company that washed the car for me. The car is so new we did not polish it.

First I decided that I would put on the logos myself, no problem I was thinking.. But after talking to the guy cleaning the car he had some friends that specialized in this, and they could do it really cheap. Okey no problem and I headed over to get it done.

Since there was so many change of plans on this trip, I was not in a hurry. Simone and me went to Laugardalur Spa and enjoyed a full day in the spa with beer and good food. This spa is located in the basement of World Class gym and its not so easy to find for tourists. We where not allowed to take pictures inside, but the spa area is one of the best I have visited on Iceland.

Went back to our apartment in Reykjavik and started to find some of the equipment we where going to bring on the trip. It took one and a half day to figure out what to bring. Mostly because Simone was drinking wine and sun bathing together with some friends and left me and the cat to do all the logistics. Thrust me this is just a little bit of what we where bringing.

We left late in the evening from Reykjavik and we got a really nice sunset we had to stop and photograph.

The first night we went south, we have so much time and no special plans so we just wanted to go all over Iceland. We spent the first night at a camping spot close to Geysir. We arrived late in the evening.

Next morning we woke up to a fantastic day.

Since they had done a lot of electical work on my car with the VHF/UF/HF, internet, satellite phone, I had to test everything now in the beginning of the trip. Sure of course there where something not working. So we planned to go on a short trip, return to Reykjavik to fix it and then go back to the highlands.
