Thread: Unimog U1300 w/ Alaskan camper for sale

Default Unimog U1300 w/ Alaskan camper for sale

I was scaning E-bay today and saw that my buddy with the U1300 has put it up for sale! I'm stunned! I've driven this truck and its nice. That was over a year ago and it sounds like he has done more work to it since.

I have a call into him to find out why he's selling it (probably has to do with new house and baby).

PM me if interested in more info.

Interesting...thanks for posting that, Joaquin...this is the rig you and I referred to on another thread. Not trying to compromise your friend's interests here, but is this a fair/reasonable price? I'm really not up to speed on the market for these vehicles...my guess is that it varies alot depending on condition and how much work/mods the owner has put into it...but generally speaking, what's your opinion? thanks

    Yup. one in the same.

I guess only time will tell. They are not very prevelent in the US (as opposed to the older 404's). My guess is that it will probably be hard to find a newer one due to ALL the current import laws.

I know my friends plans were to build a sound expedition rig and he does things top shelf, so I'm sure that what he has done so far will be quality.

Vince, I have to give you a work of warning here...

A Unimog like this actually may crimp your style! Top speed is going to be around 60 MPH. the motors are low horsepower, parts are in most cases available, BUT!!! some of the costs will near bankrupt you!

The fact is...A vehicle like this necessitates commitment (financial , emotional, time) that would pale your nicely set up Taco.

Would I buy it??? In a minute if I didn't have 2 big trucks already.

Yeah...good words of advice on time/cost/commitment...plus I think most of the guys (like yourself) that own these type of vehicles have mechanic skills that far exceed mine...probably not a vehicle for me...will have to wait until I can afford something like R.U.F. is doing.

Possibly, but I wouldn't let that detour you. Everybody has to start somewhere.

Compairing a Mutsu FD to a Mog (U series) is like compairing a Chevy Nova to a Porsche Carrera. Granted the Mog would be a construction project where buying a RUF would be turnkey. Personally, I rather build my own.

Yeah, I'm well aware that the capabilities of a Mog far far exceed those of a Mitsu FG...there's really no comparison in offroad capabilities between the two vehicles...as you pointed out! But I doubt if I'll be building my own...it's simply a matter of time, life priorities, and the endeavors on which I want to expend my life energy. My hat is off to people like you who can. So for me it comes back to compromises OR eventually just buying something really expensive.

That's a very cool setup. I have a soft spot for Alaskan campers - a couple who used to take me fishing when I was a kid had one. They're bloody heavy, but solid.

    And a diesel Unimog . . .sigh.

Interesting to see if it will sell for anywhere near that price.

I like the lower profile of using a pop-top camper.

With some container wheels you might even be able to get in in a hi-cube.

As I suspected, there were no bids at all.

I saw a Mog on 101 yesterday coming into GIlroy.

It was the same orange as this one, but it did not have the camper.

Pretty distinctive looking, even from a distance.
