building a expedition vehicle from scratch

hi,
i'm new to the forum but come across this forum very often whilst researching expedition vehicles.
i'm kind of an apocalypse prepper and the idea is to make an expedition vehicle as self sustainable as possible, at the moment i'm looking at the drivetrain, i was thinking building it on a tatra base, however i have changed my mind to a tatra /ot 64 SKOT, my main doubt now is that i was thinking doing it from an 8x8 vehicle and run it on 4x4 with optional retractable tracks, however it can be done as well on 4x4 with optional 8x8 (4 retractable wheels), would the tracks give me any advantage off road that the 8x8 would not?

this is the transmission that i have in mind as in opposite to the Tatra swing axles:

also for suspension i'm thinking of the hydropneumatic suspension where i can lower or raise the wheels/tracks.

after searching google a lot i managed to find this page with a few examples:

For an apocalypse prepper, expedition vehicles are not self sustainable since they (especially bigger, bad'er as your links show) require huge amounts of fuel and maintenance. For the apocalypse, move somewhere with sparse population and get a mountain bike, stash supplies in multiple locations in the mountains, learn to farm. Biking is very sustainable and you can have your supplies very spread out. You'll survive well - but you won't look cool.

If your goal is to take over after the apocalypse then you need the 'tanks'

Self sustaining 8x8 with retractable tracks expedition zombie killing machine..... This kind of stuff is fun to talk about, but come on, let's be honest, this thing will never be built. It would cost a million bucks, at least, to do this properly. Then the thing would get 2mpg and you'd look like a fool as the apocalypse never comes :) Do you have a million bucks OP.

Here you go, this is more up your alley. For $15k you can get this 6x6 prepper survival mobile. Seriously, go buy this!
