My D40 Navara's tailgate does not have a lock. Can anyone suggest a good and sturdy after-market lock?

Does it have to be aftermarket? My Frontier came with a tail gate lock from the factory. It uses the same key as the door and the ignition, so that's nice.
Is there something different about the Navara's tailgate that you couldn't use a Nissan part?

I asked the dealer why my Navara doesn't have a lock on the tailgate, it appears to have a blanked off bit where the barrel should be.
He said there's no point locking it when people can reach in and grab stuff, with the ARB canopy shut, and locked its not possible to open the tailgate anyway - same goes if you go for a flat hard lid.

Either theft is a different issue in your area, or the dealer didn't want to answer the question. Tailgate locks in this country have become nearly mandatory to stop the tailgate from being stolen. It has nothing to do with what you carry inside the bed. I had to replace a tailgate on a '91 Ford F-150, and a used one at the junk yard was $200. A new gate for a Frontier would be more like a grand, and that is worth protecting.Originally Posted by BiG BoB

While having a bedliner installed, the Nissan dealer salesperson says that they cannot get a lock for the tailgate. I plan to install a cargo basket over the bed of the truck thereby snatching items in the bed difficult. The plan is moot, however, if my stuff can simply be grabbed by opening the tailgate.
A friend is now in the States so I can ask him to track down the part. I've already identified the Pace Edwards Pop&Lock. Are there others?

I have a tonneau cover and when it is locked, you would be hard pressed to open the tailgate itself without making a scene but I keep the tailgate locked anyways out of habit.
My parents have a "high-end" F350 and were told by their insurance agent to keep the tailgate up and locked at all times. Seems as though we've been have a rather active rash of tailgate thefts over the last few years. I think to re place theirs was in the neighborhood of 1500$.
I've been looking for one for my 2000 Frontier and have had absolutely 0% luck! If you find one, please share!
Theft of the tailgate itself is not in the least a concern here.
Can you order a tail gate lock for a Frontier (North America D40)?
A tail gate lock comes stock on the Frontier.
