Simple kind of van, a 2006 e150 build thread.

well, its been a while since i posted (or even visited) this site.

van is semi stagnant.

installed the bedrug, put 4 single e-track pieces so i could hold a bike inside, theres a "doubler plate" under the van floor that is 1/4" thick.

hauled a bunch of stuff for my "new" house, picked up an adrian steel poly-liner kit for it (have yet to put it in), was fighting a vibration problem, changed from cooper discover at-3's to toyo open country h/t's,

still had a vibration, dismounted and spun the wheels, couple of my cheap steel wheels were out of round a bit, enter a new set of XD-301 wheels

oh yeah, i also did a headlight upgrade.

first up, stock lights, this is backed into my shop, shining about 25 feet to the wall across the driveway....... pretty ************* pitiful for a "modern" vehicle. these were sylvania halogen bulbs, sealed beam, h6054.

the next pic is my street in the dark, street light shaded by a big tree, i think the flash was on my iPhone camera.

new low beams..... these are hella E code lenses, with a headlight relay harness added in, and 80/100w bulbs.

the white 4 runner is 2 houses away, these new lights are great, the output is good, and I'm pleased.

total investment, about $200. i get the hella e codes about 1/2 of retail thru my shop, so i had to try.

Nice to see you back!
Still need to copy your moto rack!

heres an update on the 66 chevy I'm working on.

got it up onto the table, used a A frame and a chain hoist and just lifted her on up there

got the rear axle stripped out, and set the frame down onto its ride height (6 inches frame clearance to ground)

cut out the bent/twisted front K member, and the front lower cross member, welded in a 4" box front cross member

cut back the inner fenders, as the new suspension would interfere, and boxed in the front frame horns with 1/8" plate

fit the new C4 corvette K member from FLAT-OUT-ENGINEERING, this is all a bit of trial and error, as if installed using their instructions, the truck would be about 3" from the floor, and thats too low for a daily

jumped to the back of the truck now, cut the rear frame section out and put new material back there. gaining a bunch of clearance for the IRS corvette dana 36 unit.

Can't say that I've ever lifted a vehicle with a hoist like that, or that I've put said vehicle on a big arsh table before...

We lifted the rear of the truck up first onto the table, pushed the truck backwards til the frame hit, and then lifted the front and moved the whole thing back. The table is nice, it's been used to jig many a frames to, mostly sports car stuff, but we're getting wildman on this truck so it was affixed to the table.

We've lifted lathes and mills onto flatbed trucks with that knock-down "home made" a frame, still gettin the job done, and it collapses down and fits in the back of a Honda crx

Reminds me a bit of the time we put the front half of a stripped 21 window on the bed of my buddy's truck to tow it across town... ah, to be a teenager again.

been working on the punchlist.

no van work yet, but getting closer. with the "house work" nearing completion, i will be able to focus on my list of projects, first being my commuter.

knocked together a simple work table for my motorcycle. my dr650 will be going under the knife soon, being decommissioned as a dirt bike/dual sport, and being turned into a commuter, its got a pretty good list itself. after the bike is done, ill be able to start the van, as i'll then have the bike to ride daily.

heres a quick couple of the work bench, made from 8 2x3's and 1 sheet of 3/4 plywood.... all in, about $120 including paint supplies, and about 4-5 hours so far, with one more coat to go on the bench surface.

so, I've had my dr650 for a little over a year, and currently its on its second incarnation of life. it came to me new, in the winter of 2014, and i quickly got it ready to go to dual sport riding. its had pretty much everything done to it, with the exception of the engine/carb/exhaust. i prefer to keep things relatively stock in that respect, as i don't want to be stuck out in the sticks and have something crap the bed.

this is version 1.0, it had gotten some pretty comprehensive work, front and rear suspension re worked, big tank, nicer seat, bars, hand guards, skid plate, rear rack, tail light, etc, theres plenty more, but thats the large stuff

88C75331-F76A-4BC7-A24E-69E29A3AD320_zpshn34qstn.jpg

version 2.0 saw a color change, the grey blends in with the asphalt, so i switched it up to mostly white, but with a black fender (still with black tank), and the addition of a second set of wheels, 19" up front, 17 rear, with more street oriented tires on it. I've been pretty well keeping it in this trim, with out a lot of time to ride dirt, but had (until recently sold) a second set of wheels with dirt tires. after my last weekend on the bike in the dirt, i decided it was just too dang heavy to ride aggressively in the dirt, and ill look for something lighter, and probably orange to accompany it in the stable (after the van)

so thats the mighty DR650 up to date.

so, whats to come?

new wider wheels, 100% street rubber, digital gauge, some clutch work, grips, full servicing, etc.

heres a quick shot of the new front wheel with 320mm supermoto brake rotor, new front wheel is 19x2.5" same size as some of the larger adventure bikes, the new rear (still inbound) is 17x4.25, which will allow some nice sticky rubber.
