I have a few tail gate storage lids for 80 series land cruiser. Made of 3/16" aluminum, stainless steel hardware and latch.
I haven't test it's max load capacity, but so far my 230# friend use and abuse it, sit and stand on it without any issues.

Kit includes: Hinge, stainless nuts & bolts, stainless steel latches,
What you need: File or chamfer the edges of the aluminum lid, cut your tail gate, drill a holes on the hinge, bolt everything on.
