FJ-60 gun rack

I am researching different gun racks for my FJ-60 . I would like something up on the roof . I've looked at the Big Sky racks and this one.

What kind of gun are you carrying? What are you planning for? Are you paranoid like me or just planning for hunting? Headroom is a consideration with the roof mounts. Personally I like the truck vault option. Its not quick but secure. Use your shorts to reach your longs. In my Jeep, I use a rack that holds my rifles upright. Not quick at all but very secure. Depends on what your planning for.

I've been using a Pelican rifle case and won't look back. Sorry, I know its not what your asking but its useful for so many things and keeps my gear dry, safe and out of sight. Not to mention it can move from house to vehicle, and from vehicle to vehicle discreetly.

Having used an assortment of mount systems in my profession the only thing that I can add is that a roof mount gun rack is prone to rattling and driving you nuts. I use a vertical locking mount and have for more than 10 years now.

I plan on carrying my SCAR and an 870. I like to be prepared whether in in the mountains or on the border.

A pelican case is wider than the truck and takes up a lot of room. I carried my work M4 on my roof for 10 years without any issues.

I installed the Big Sky single gun rack a few years back. Works very well for me. You also don't even see the rack unless you are right up on the vehicle looking in the window.

Thanks. I'm looking at mounting the rack behind the front seats. I don't have a back seat and a platform for my gear. My windows are tinted.

Is there a way you can lock the weapon into the rack ?

Not without modifying the rack. Shouldn't be too hard to come up with something.

You can also buy second hand police cruiser locks from Santa Cruz I think it is, anybody? Anyhow, it would provide an electronic lock that is not only secure but fast. I'm looking forward to what you come up with.

I used their "panic handle" mounting plates which gave me nice secure mounting. http://www.bigskyracks.com/products/instructions/panic-handle-installation/

I still need to juggle the gun cradles for the best fit .
