"Exo Egg" Fiberglass Camper Build

Very cool! We have been wanting to do this for several years now, but life and $ have, so far, delayed us. I have two questions... Did you keep the original frame under the egg? what are your plans for a bathroom? Thanks, and keep the pictures coming.:)

Yes, original frame. We went over it and it's all structurally sound so for now at least we are using it. If after our test run we find we need to make additional modifications for weight distribution we may pull the shell and build a new longer frame. Also using the original torsion axle but realize this too is something we may replace down the road.

There is no bathroom. This model was never equipped with one. When we camp without facilities, we will have a portable potty. We designed a detachable pole on the back side of the rack which we can hang a custom curtain to create a small enclosure which will act as our outhouse/ shower stall for off grid camping.

We are in paint stage currently. Not entirely happy with the final diy paint job so considering shooting it again, having someone else paint it or a wrap.

Keep up the good work, this thing looks awesome. I really like the exo skeleton. If your last pic in the garage is your home paint job then it doesn't look too bad.

It's been awhile I know....but the exo egg project is nearing the finish line! Since my last update, we have had the egg professionally painted and matched to my jeep. We weren't happy with our paint job attempt and the white didn't match the white on my jeep at all. Anyway, the paint job is done and we are much happier now. With the paint being done finally its been a process of reassembling everything we took apart. The windows have been rebuilt with new weatherstripping and reinstalled. The JK bumper was painted and reinstalled with the JK tire carrier and the addition of the jerry cans. The JK taillights have been installed. All new lights and wiring throughout is complete. The a/c - heat unit has been installed under the front bench, the fridge, stovetop, range hood, and ceiling fan. We replaced the ugly carpet headliner on the ceiling with a diamond tread foam mat which we also used on the floor. The waterproof speakers are installed along with the bluetooth stereo. New power converter with battery. We installed rock lights to match those on my JK as well. I completed the curtains this past week, installed a backsplash and some space saving storage options. We hope to finish the custom diamond plate cabinet doors this week. Next on the list will be running the gas lines, plumbing and reinstalling the water tank. The exo cage and fan will be last to be re-installed as it has to be done outside of the garage or we wont be able to clear the door, so we wanna finish absolutely everything we can while we can work inside the heated garage :) I will be able to update our build on a more regular basis now that we have started back on it again. Thanks for following along. I don't know when it will be done but I am confident it will go camping this year!

Nice job with the rear bumper and cleaning things up. Sweet little trailer. Hopefully I'll see it up in the mountain of WV sometime and be able to check it out closer.

That's a sweet little trailer. What's the projected finished weight? Sorry if I missed it.

Thanks! No idea what the finished weight will end up being. My jeep is tow rated for 3500lbs so I know we will come in way under that at the very least! lol We had the egg weighed when we took it to the body shop for paint when it was completely stripped down and it came in just under 1000lbs (no windows, door, nothing). The original manufacturer empty weight is stated to be 1250lbs so we will see how much it changes with the mods we have added. We have considered the weight and tried to distribute it in a manner to hopefully maintain a smooth pull behind the jeep. We will also likely do an axle swap in the future, mainly for trailer brake option. The original axle appears good and is pretty stout but we do want trailer brakes. Anyway, we are just kinda winging it on the overall weight until we can take it on a test run and see what changes we might need to make at that time.
