Just about to leave the rest stop to head to the Black Hills. Goofball size hail in the Black Hills. The forecast was right! Hanging in the back with Coop, who is terrified of thunder.

I get the dog and thunder bit. I used to have to go down to the basement and dig my black lab out from under the bed even if the storm was well gone.
The thing about the dog hair on my shirt is there were dogs of many colors so I couldn't have made a proper choice any way.
The neighbors had a yellow lab that hated thunder as well and would hide in the basement. Oh, you have a ball? She got over thunder eventually as long as you threw that ball.

Hi,

Just started reading. Looking forward to your adventures. What caught my eye was your comment about ignoring the TPMS warning light. Please check your tire pressure or stop at a tire shop. Don't forget to check your spare too. I once had my TPMS light come on and all of the tires on my 4Runner were at spec rating. Drove me nuts until I remembered the spare! Done.

Pactola Reservoir, SD

After waiting out the storm that raged over the Black Hills, we found camp and got set up for the evening. This is a lovely, peaceful spot and the campsites are very private with plenty of space between them.

Can I tell you about the tent I'm using? I have had it since 2000. There is not one hole or scratch in it. This is after considerable use. Snowstorms. Terrible wind. Dogs. My husband's friends during backpacking adventures. You name it. It is Mountain Hardwear. I guess they were bought by Columbia years ago but nothing has changed as far as how they produce their gear. It was worth every penny.

Something else I'm glad I bought...a mesh duffle bag. I pack up and leave so early that there is always dew on my tent and all I have to do is toss the fly in the mesh bag, strap it loosely to the trailer somewhere, and drive down the highway. Coop tossed his breakfast in the back of the truck today, so I can wash the sheet he threw up on using this...

Then toss in mesh bag and I'm good.

Last night I complained on the phone to my husband that the worst thing about camping the whole time as opposed to getting hotel rooms is the fact that I haven't seen night jars. I love them; love to see them dart to chase abnormally large Midwestern bugs in the lights of the Denny's parkinglot; love to hear their calls. And then just as if to make up for it, here go two over my camp!

Does anyone care about what's going on with Lewis and Clark? They thought they had lost George Shannon, one of their party, only to have him wander into camp weeks later, having survived on his own for weeks! How bonkers is that?

Here are shots of camp and Coop and obligatory Hundy shot.

I checked my pressures myself after making sure they were properly inflated the day before I left. None of the pressures were changed from that day. All aired to spec. I didn't check the spare. I will do that tomorrow.

There is something amiss. It only comes on now once it gets to be about 84 degrees out. I would worry more if they were not brand new tires.

Thanks for looking out. I am having it serviced in 2 weeks in Billings, so I'll see if they can give me an answer. Wondering if it's just faulty and needs replacing.

Anyway, thanks!

Your hair looks pretty good for a girl driVing 23 hours...:ylsmoke:

Loving the trip report...was that the tent you had in CT.?...it has to be a lot warmer with His Highness in there....keep the reports coming, if you get jammed up with anything about the truck, just head over to the WorldwideMudNetwork...:smiley_drive:

I was dodging a pretty nasty storm today and tried to shut the sunroof only to ave it keep opening up, but I think my lights wire loosened up and one must have slipped into the sunroof cavity. Think I have it fixed.

But I know, my 100 series guys are the bomb. I asked a question once in line at Starbucks, on my phone, and had an answer before I headed over to the parts department at Toyota. 5 minutes later. Those guys are so cool. And so knowledgeable.

My hair? No, it's a mess now. It has cooled off a lot, to the point where I got cold last night. So the windows were down all day and from now on no real showers...for the next 2 weeks.

We will be at fishing access sites along the Missouri so it is biodegradable shampoo and soap only.

No more pretty hair...here's proof...

Cut it out. Are they on Everest? Are they on Anapurna? Clothes, maybe. Tents?

Patagonia for clothes. You will have it forever, unless you change your mind, but then you can sell it on eBay.

Coop and I made it to MT today and are camping at Missouri Headwaters State Park. Tomorrow I will run up to Craig, figure out which fly patterns we'll need, then pick Tim up in Great Falls. Then we'll have to rig our boat, a 16' NRS Cataraft, to run whatever sections the guides in Craig say we should run. I will also hire them to shuttle our LC and trailer to the take out for Day 1 of fishing.

I think I will be out of cell service tomorrow but will check in when I can.

There is a picture here of the trailer, which was just a simple utility trailer. Tim cut off the ramp, then added oar boxes on either side (which are used to store a bunch of things on the trips out and back). The cataraft frame fits perfectly in the trailer, and all the gear is wedged inside it, until the cat is inflated, then all the same gear is stowed beneath the cat while the pontoons rest on either side.

Once we meet up with my brother next week we will have to put that raft together. We usually toss it on top of the cat, since its a 10' boat.

The fire was around Spearfish.

Here's to good fishing and other things that make you smile...
