This isn't really a traditional overlanding journey but maybe you guys will be interested anyway. My brother-in-law(a full time magician), sister(his business manager/magician's assistant), and their 2 young kids, recently embarked from the NYC area on a trip down south in a 1971 VW bus.
They have a few magic shows set up in North Carolina, and Tennessee, and are just in general kind of out there, crazy, amazing people.
They had their first breakdown yesterday, a rocker valve came disconnected, luckily they were able to repair it in a couple of hours and get back on the road.
