No, no modifications needed for either set of lights, they drop right in and are plug and play. There are no 'buckets' to speak of, they replace the entire sealed beam unit. Just an outer ring that bolts them into the header panel area. Takes literally 4-5 minutes to install, and a phillips screwdriver.

    During the swap.

At the race track, getting ready for the lighting tests.

The results, as posted by Bill. No before shots since we had stock XJ data from my Daily Driver XJ. WE had a lot of lights to test that night, and didnt want to feed the mosquitos anymore than we had to.

Hey Stumpy.... Have you done any of the round trucklites in a CJ/TJ type vehicle yet? I have a pair coming for my Scrambler and would like to know what to expect. Fitment and wiring needs etc...

Jeepdreamer, check out the "where is Stumpy" thread in the South East Expedition Society forum in the regional areas of expo. We did a TJ with round JW Speakers, and also a JK with round trucklites. There is a large headlight shootout thread started by Hilldweller on Jeep Forum that would have some info for you also.

    Thanks Beardus!

What did you use to hook this net in there? I really like the idea!

The 7" round shoot-out starts with the older model Phase 6 Trucklites; I had actually started with Phase 5s but they were so bad I never wrote them up.
The Phase 7 lights are a world apart. You'll have no problem with them in a TJ, even with a bad alternator.

They are made to the old SAE standard though and I don't believe you'll find them all that legal in Germany; are you running with US registration?
There is a JW Speaker varient that's ECE.

    Default CJs for me...

Thanks HD, Mine are going in my 83 Scrambler if I can ever find some retaining rings to replace the rusty mesh headlight screens. I don't know what generation these TL lights are.. do you?

Those are either 5 or 6 ---- the most durable headlights ever made.

...and some of the absolute worst photometry ever made...

But they're good lights for a dedicated trail rig, farm equipment, M1 Abrams tank. You have to try very very hard to kill them.
But you'll also want supplemental lighting to see where you're going.
