Saw this old BMW at work today

Sorry for the picture quality, it is very sunny out here at 10 am, going to hit about 95° today.
Almost an FJ Cruiser blue, looks like a model before the GS?

I have posted a picture of that nice Triumph next to it here before, I like that one.IMAG0611.jpg

Definitely an old RS. I want to say RS80 or RS100. These bikes look killer when you trim the fat off them, and I've been considering picking one up, but I've heard less than awesome things about their reliability.

I'm not a BMW expert but with twin disc brakes I'm thinking that can't be much older than early 80's or maybe very late 70's?

I do like the look of the airhead beemers. I have an oilhead (2002 R1150R Roadster) that I love.

"Reliability" is a relative term. Compared to other bikes of that era, the BMW was known as an extremely reliable bike. Any 30+ year old bike is going to need some TLC and attention.

It's hard to see in the picture, but it almost looks like it says R75, which were less common than the R80's or R100's, but very similar bikes. Martinjmpr is right on with the age, I'd put it right about 79-83. As for the reliabilty, compared to some newer bikes, perhaps not quite on par, but for their age they are incredibly reliable, and when they do have a problem they are very easy to work on. They still have quite a following, and strong after market support.

Looks earlier to me. It seems like a 75/6 from the mid 70s (73 - 76). But it looks like it has a 90s tank, fairing and front end (twin disk). It has the rounded rocker covers (/6) and not the squared off valve covers (/7). It also has the kick start gearbox which is /6 and not /7.

Here is a much better picture I took of it this morning.
An R75 with a much newer R series behind it.
We have a lot of BMW bikes at work, and a lot of times plenty of GS's too.
