MotionX Download Question

I bought MotionX for my iPad yesterday and today I'm trying to add it to my iPhone and am not having any luck. Does anyone have any advice? I bought it through my iPad and not iTunes. When I sign into the App Store on my phone it wants me to pay for the app again.

Thanks,

Chad

Many apps are designed to run across all iOS platforms. In MotionX's case they have built two separate apps - one for iPhone (MotionX) and one for iPad (MotionX HD)

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/motio...299949744?mt=8 for iPhone

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/motio...370488535?mt=8 for iPad

This means that you have to buy it again to run it on an iPhone :-(

Downloading some of the advanced MotionX maps can literally take days.

Planning a lengthy road trip can mean you're downloading maps for weeks.

It's the biggest design flaw in an otherwise excellent app.

Thanks. That's what I feared.

I haven't tried downloading maps for trips yet, but isn't there a way to download them into a folder on your desktop or something?

You download them directly into the app.

It's the app that's doing the downloading, after you steer it to what you want to download.

You don't seem to be able to separate the map tiles (at least the ones I've downloaded, which include Google Maps) from the app itself.

Take a look at GAIA GPS or Hema Explorer. I prefer GAIA because Hema is a 1.0 version and clone of Gaia. Anyway......, There are lots of map options in Gaia. Downloading maps is very easy. Once you have a track in the app you can even just say download map(s) for tracks and it will download along the track and to either side for like 8 miles I believe. The app is way more at $20.00 but both iPad and iPhone are included. It is just way more feature rich. I just find Motion-X to be very data and not keeping with the times. I also don't find it easy to download maps and the maps do not provide the level of detail I require when off pavement. USFS Raster maps are 2nd to none IMHO in Gaia.
