My Safari Dream Rig. If they only still made them.
This ones made with the steering wheel on side us Yanks can drive properly on beings I'm not a Jouster.
I'd swap the engine for a Chevy 350 if there was room and a Turbo 400 tranny
The closest thing I can find that looks like this is an Isuzu Trooper. (the safari look)

Still lots of Defenders in circulation...in Europe. LHD drive models are very popular in Germany (and elsewhere)

Plenty of sub $30k (even sub $20k) defenders here in the US.
The defender source website has a classifieds section, as does rovers north.
The expensive ones are at Copley motors and eBay with low miles and high prices; no need to start with a pristine example to hack up for a small block chevy swap.
