Fluctuating Speedo on 2006 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon

Hay all,

Has anyone seen a problem with their speedo fluctuating wildly on this make and model?

Just passed 36K and it started...wouldn't ya know it. I have a Superlift TruSpeed system in use also.

Any ideas would be helpful.

Problem with the speed transducer perhaps? I had to change that out before and it fixed the problem. But since you're using the Superlift TruSpeed system, hopefully that's not the source of the problem.

I have the exact same vehicle and it happened to my wife once for about a minute and has never done it again. My Jeep runs the stock tires and gears, so that makes me think it is unrelated to the Superlift piece. That was about 6 months ago and hasn't happened again.

Interesting, it happened to me once before about 5 months ago, for about 1 mile, and never did it again until recently. Now it is pretty bad. I thought maybe it was puter related and a "reset" made it work again?!?

Your sig doesn't say Auto or stick?? If auto I think theres a TSB about reflashing the computer.

I have the TruSpeed on my Tacoma. In June I experienced my first ever break-down in the field and it was due to the TruSpeed. I was driving along around 15mph in the back country and the truck lost all power and went to idle and during this episode the speedometer swung wildly from side to side. After a couple minutes, it stopped and I regained throttle input again, then later it did it again. During one of the episodes I pulled the fuse on the TruSpeed and it fixed the problem and it didn't resurface all weekend until I reinstalled the TruSpeed fuse. Later that month I sent the sensor back to Superlift and got a replacement and installed it inside the cab. Last time it was under the hood and some folks raised the concern that the unit was not hearty enough to be under the hood. So far with the new unit, no issues.

OK...WEIRD...it did it for 3 days off and on...and hasn't done it again for the last 5 days?!?

Just thought I would post a follow up to this.

The speedo problem worsened to the point where it showed zero velocity and the odometer would not update.

After all this, a simple reset (reseat the fuse) to the Superlift TruSpeed indicator fixed the problem. I have not had any issues for as few weeks now.

Pull it and replace it with a Dakota Digital. Cheaper, Universal and haven't seen any failures or glitches in the 5 that are running in our club.
