Thread: 1978 VW Volkswagen Westfalia Campervan Expedition Bus

Default 1978 VW Volkswagen Westfalia Campervan Expedition Bus

    San Diego, California

You may have read about it in National Geographic Adventure or seen us give our lecture about our three year trip through Mexico, Central America, South America and Africa in our 1978 VW Camper Van.

Now you can own the van that made the expedition.

We are selling our beloved van with all the upgrades and extras that make it the ultimate expedition vehicle. It is one of the most difficult decisions we have ever made. But it is time. I have been using it as a grocery runner for the past eight months... and that is just wrong! Since we have decided to remain in San Diego indefinitely, the van needs to be in the hands of someone who is planning a big adventure.

    Hi Bjorn,

Last year we bicycled through Southeast Asia. We plan to stay put for a while and perhaps write another book.

Wow, I have read about some of your travels. As a former Westy owner, I have to say that is one fine vehicle. Man I wish I was in the market for one right now. I've got a Thing that is need of some major loving prior to living anymore Westy dreams though. Good luck with the sale.

    NoooooOOOoooooooo.

Would Roy Rogers trade Trigger for a handful of coins?

How about the Lone Ranger and Silver?

This is quite a blow to those of us that have lived vicariously through your book and website... ...

(Good luck with the sale ... and everything else)

Yes, I know. It has been a difficult decision for us. I was tossing and turning all night after posting this message last night.

One of the greatest lessons we learned on the journey was how few possessions we needed to be happy. We lived in this tiny van for three years on the road and could only fit those things that were really necessary.

Now, the van is by far our largest remaining possessions and it is not being used as it should. Others may feel the same about their large home after the kids have left and gone to college, gotten married, and had kids of their own. Perhaps they are tempted to keep it even though they do not need five bedrooms and would be much happier in a beach bungalow.

This van has helped us to live our dreams. Now we hope to get it to someone who will use and love it as we have.
