Default Ford flex, AWD, 24mpg, seats 7, onboard NAV, AND a fridge...

    whats not to like?!

anyone thought about the new ford FLEX?

saw one today, and it was pretty cool-looking. supposedly it has an AWD option, as well as a factory-installed fridge...

    awesome

I don't like how a lot of these new cars are labeled as having "fridges" when they're nothing more than a cool box. IMO it needs to have a compressor if it is really going to bring the temps down. You put a water bottle in there on a hot day and while it won't get real hot, it certainly isn't going to be real cold either.

Other than that, I think the Flex looks pretty cool. While you can get AWD, it looks way too low to use for even mild stuff. Not to mention no low range.

    Default Actual Compressor!!!!

Looks like it says it actually has a compressor.
    "Refrigerated Console Option
If you go with the available 2nd-row 40/40 bucket seats, you can also get the optional rear console refrigeration. Unlike systems that just keep beverages cool, the compressor-driven unit in Flex can chill up to seven 12-oz. cans, four half-liter bottles or two 20-oz. bottles down to 41°F. There's also a freeze mode that'll go down to 23°F."

Looks like it could be on par with an Element (bigger thou)

Why don't they just call it what it is, a station wagon.

because then it would be a big station wagon that gets poor mpg's.

what it really is, is a minivan alternative. In that respect, it's pretty nice.

    it has a compressor...it freezes too..down to 21 degree's...

    i sat in one today.

    initial response: wow!

-i'm 6'-0", 280lbs, and i had room in every seat.
    -rear seat space is gargantuan
    -sunroof(s) are slick

-cooler would hold some essentials, but is mainly
for cans of coke, popcicles or well though out
    containers of butter/eggs, etc.

-there is a button on driver/pass side door sills that automatically/quickly folds
2nd row seats (you can do it manually, too) so that someone can access the
rear two seats. my 3 year old could actually open the door,
hit the button and be getting in her carseat, all by herself. WOW!

-the rear row has one LATCH position, and can "belt-strap" on the other seat.
-2nd row has 2 LATCH positions w/ cooler, and at least 2 w/o cooler
-rear dvd system has fold down screen and easy controls for long trips.

-navigation is linked to bluetooth and serius radio
for real time searching for gas/grocery etc., when
you are on the road. can be linked to your IPOD, too. nice.

-AWD is a standard automatic traction control that is FWD
normally, then can go 100% rear or 50/50
by itself...supposed to be pretty effective.

-ground clearance sucks...though if used within its limits, would work as
well as a VW bus or an E-camper, i would think, and those suckers go
    everywhere!

-can tow 4000lbs with optional class three tow
hitch package. (thats more than my jeep by 500lbs..lol)

oh, i asked about a rack system so i can build the slick euro style, low-profile roof rack you all want. I'm thinking four low profile lights integrated into a fairing in the front and two in the rear, with padded upper bars for our canoe and low profile camping gear storage.

the salesman didn't know about one just yet, but thought thule or yakima probably would step up soon.

I thought they looked like a stretched Scion. A station wagon is a good label for it too though.

I like them, long wheelbase makes it look a little odd, but it's growing on me. Ford now has 3 "crossover" SUV's powered by 3.5l V-6's. I'm a fan of the Edge also. Not as any type of off roader, but they drive nice and have a nice interior.
