VW is working on an updated version of its 3.0L V6 turbodiesel. The new motor will have around 240 hp and 428 ft lb of torque, increases of about 5% over the current 3.0L diesel. The new diesel will appear in large VW, Audi and Porsche vehicles starting a year from now.

Not for USA is a new twin turbo version of the 3.0L diesel, which builds 313 hp and 479 ft lb. Equipped with an 8 speed transmission and Quattro AWD, the Audi SQ5 SUV reaches 60 mph in less than 5.1 seconds, and still gets 32 mpg. Read about the SQ5 here

Here's another description of the twin-turbo diesel

Re: Mahindra, I suspect their decision is due in part to the lawsuits filed by the company licensed to be Mahindra's exclusive importer for USA.

With Mahindra and VW officially out of the USA market, it looks like the first midsize pickup with small diesel engine will be the Chevy Colorado. See the post above that says the Colorado probably won't be introduced until mid-2014.

There's a small chance that Dodge and/or Jeep will offer a midsize pickup with the 3.0L V6 diesel from the Grand Cherokee by 2015.

Saw this today and never knew GM was putting diesels in kinda current Caddys? Anyone know anything about these? While my guess is that it would be pretty complex wiring wise, It would have to have a decent ride, power, and compactness to be in such a fancy-schnamcy car...wouldn't it?
*note* its a link to a classifieds site us Military folks use. No affil etc blah blah... just thought the fancy Caddy with a diesel was neat.

jeepdreamer, I checked out that ad for the Caddy. While reading it, I see that it consumes 27 gallons of fuel per 60 miles!!! (yikes!) I'm sure there was an error on the math. It should have been closer to 2 gallons per 60 miles, based on the 7.6l per 100km estimate.

I also did not know GM was making Caddys with diesels. It would be interesting to see them offer one here in the US, but I don't think it will happen.

Yeah... I see a lot of locals add stuff for sale on the site and there is frequent errors. Not like I can fault them since my German speaking ability is limited to beer and ....uh, stuff. I'm just curious to know what kind of set up this is? Displacment, tranny bolt pattern...HP & TQ numbers... I doubt it would be very easy to swap since the fancy cars get so much electronic mumbo jumbo stuff that is probably intergrated but still interesting to note.

I checked online. The Cadillac BLS was a model developed by SAAB in the years when SAAB was owned by GM. The car is based on the SAAB 9-3. The diesel engine was a Fiat 1.9L four cylinder. The BLS sold poorly, but because it's based on models that did sell well, it should be possible to get it serviced in Europe.

    http://www.autoblog.com/2012/07/30/2...k-spin-review/

The reviewer describes a Mercedes E300 station wagon, powered by a diesel electric hybrid powerplant. The diesel part is the 2.2L turbodiesel with about 360 ft lb of torque; the electric motor can add up to 180 ft lb. A 7 speed transmission powers the rear wheels. Result: An observed 44 mpg (US gallons) during the test drive. Not bad for a 4400 lb vehicle!

The electric part of the equation is interesting in its small size. The Lithium Ion battery pack and components to recharge it adds only 200 lb. The electric component is able to power the vehicle by itself only for 1000 yards. But it has enough juice to help start the vehicle rolling, and to keep moving in stop and go traffic.
