That first picture of the Airstream out in Joshua Tree is amazing!! Probably one of the coolest camp spot pictures I've ever seen



Saw this thing at the Shady Dell Campground in Bisbee Arizona. If you're ever in the area, make sure to check out that campground. The owner has a huge assortment of vintage campers that you rent out for the night.

Each one is fitted with items from that era (what ever era the camper was built)



Saw this little Airstream Bambi in Los Cerritos Beach in Baja, I think a few surfers were living out of it. And by the smell of the refer blowing my way, they didnt care that it was this small



Home Made Teardrop I saw in Michigan. The guy was selling this for $1200!! I would have bought it on the spot except we were already on our adventure

We really need a modern-day Mechanix Illustrated....

That unit is about as compact and well-thought-out as I've seen.

The table folds in half with the chairs stowed inside, then the set slides into a slot in the camper. That's cool.

A teardrop with sleeping lofts. That's cool.

A built-in 'dry' icebox. That's cool. In this case, literally.

I just became the stewart of a 46' Higgins Pop-up. The canvas has some small tears that I am going to try and fix with a product called TearMender. I like the big 15in. wheels for clearance as I have an FJ40 landcruiser and like to 4wheel. If anyone has ideas about fixing tears in canvas let me know! I am going to try and post a pic but I am not sure how to do it. I could email the pics if someone could post them for me. Thanks, Jeff

I did a quick google, and I think the camper you are talking about was sold by Sears under the J. C. Higgins name? Was it manufactured in 1946?

If it is old canvas, it may be decayed to the point where it will all have to be replaced. I hope that's not the case.

I understand that J C Higgins built the boats that US forces used to get on the beach at Normandy. After the war, he went into business as a manufacturer of pleasure boats and recreational vehicles. Later he had a deal with Sears to use his name on most all their sporting goods. Later they used Ted Williams name. The title on my trailer says it was manufactured in 1946 and was listed at $395. Someone went to allot of work to make on of the beds and extra 10in. wide. The canvas was replaced at some point and only needs some tears fixed at the corners. I will have fun restoring it! Any advise on how to post up the pics will be appreciated. Thanks for any input! Jeff

There was (is?) a Higgins boat building company somewhere in the South. They built, among other things, some of the PT boats. I can't recall ever reading the "J.C." prefix attached to any product of that company, but that doesn't mean that it didn't happen.
