JC Higgins was a popular thing with Sears back in the day they offered bicycles with that name, and a ton of hunting equiptment. My father had some of the stuff.
There was (is?) a Higgins boat building company somewhere in the South. They built, among other things, some of the PT boats. I can't recall ever reading the "J.C." prefix attached to any product of that company, but that doesn't mean that it didn't happen.
Andrew Higgins built boats for the government. J.C. Higgins was a Sears employee. There is no connection between the two. I grew up with all things J.C. Higgins, since that was about the only place my dad would shop.I understand that J C Higgins built the boats that US forces used to get on the beach at Normandy.
... and man did they ever have skills with the caulking!
That is similar to what my parents would rent every year back in the mid 60s when we went camping each summer when I was just a wee lad. Here's my little "canned ham" travel trailer. It's about 16 feet long. Field and Stream brand; made in the late 60s. Four years ago I was out looking at a house to buy and brought this home instead. It had last been registered in 1975. It's finally climbed to near the top of my projects-to-do list and I hope to use it for the first time this summer.
