Sandhills Prairie Ranch Horses

Pictures taken in 2013/14 in the Nebraska Sandhills ranch country. Working horses. By far the best way to work your ranch and livestock in the Sandhills.

Nice pictures of the horses in Sandhills. I am excited to be heading out that way in a month or so. Here are a couple from this morning in New Hampshire.

Such amazing pictures in this thread! Just overwhelming with all the natural beauty. Wow! Sadly my photography skills are SO lacking compared to you all. But you give me something to strive for!

I also really love how seeing the same place under different time, weather and circumstances can totally change the feel or effect of the location. Obviously seeing a mountain in summer versus winter does that but here's one that jumped out at me as well as my time there was very different....

Here's Ophir Pass from Mad Matt's post:

And here's what it looked like when I went through it...

So cool to see it so differently. I prefer Matt's version to mine! ha!

Some others from that same trip...

Alta ghost town. This really makes me wonder how miners survived the winters up here

Lake Como near Hurricane and California Passes

And as my son said....mickey mouse. Ha!

A storm rolled in and as we got to Hurricane Pass I was not sure which way to go. Not wanting to get on a wrong track I went to scout it out. My wife was not happy with three kids at elevation and me disappearing into the fog.

But I found the right route and pretty soon we were back below the clouds to enjoy the views

I am a newb too. I guess I was sort of "lucky" to mess up my Achilles' tendon a few months after I picked up my Canon. I was off work for almost a year with it. I picked up Lightroom 4 (I would dare say a large percentage of the photos here are post-processed) and watched a TON of youtube videos. It just takes practice! Plus I am lucky enough to have a few friends that do it for a living I was able to bug. I am comfortable enough now, I don't have to bother them . . . much!

Yeah I used to do a decent amount with an old SLR in the film days but haven't moved up to a DSLR yet. Just have to bite the bullet. But I do enjoy it. And it's a reason to get out there more! ;)

On the opposite end of it, my father's old Canon AE-1 is sitting in it's bag by my feet. One day I will get some film and give it a go. I just got his old Besler for processing film. That is waaay beyond me for a while!
