killer arb bumper hi lift mount

So i was faced with the dilemma that most of us have...how to mount my hi lift onto my tubular arb bumper. After searching around on the net the only thing i found that is somewhat suitable is this thing made by fourtrex, im sure most of you guys are familiar with. To me the thing looks pretty shady...the hi lift weighs like 50lbs for it to come loose would be disasterous and would cause a lot of damage to the vehicle. The fourtrex clamp is all aluminum, with knob type screw i would be very worried about how titght i can get it without stripping out the AL threads.

Anyway...so I confided in my good friend McMaster Carr...and here are the results.

I got two 1/2-20 4" long bolts that fit into the holes on the light tabs that came with the bumper. Again my main concern was strength so i got grade 8 and also fine thread.

Those nut spacers are 1 3/4 long.

The coolest part are those square washers 1 3/8 x 1 3/8 which perfectly fit into the channel of the jack and eliminate any chance of slack, which could cause loosing of the nuts.

You could get wing nuts instead of hex nuts for the top nuts so a wrench would not be necessary for removal but again i dont want that thing coming loose, getting the wrench out is not that much of a hassle to me.

Everything cost me about $30 with tax, a lot better then $105 from fourtrex.

If anyone is interested i can post part numbers of everything.

Nice! I did nearly the same mount on an '81 that I had, only I mounted it to the roll bar. I did apply locktite to them though. I used to jump that truck and it never came loose. Congrats on inexpensive and solid worry free mount

Looks good, but I can assure you the Fourtreks one is not shady.
There are tons of us FJ Cruiser owners running Luke's mounts on the stock FJ rack and also the ARB bumper.

I did something similar with mine. Have you checked to see that you can open and raise your hood with the Hi-Lift bolted to the front bumper yet? My first configuration didn't work and I had to make some changes to allow for me to open the hood.

What did you do to fix that?

If not, its not the end of the world i guess...

I can also testify that the Fourtreks mounts are nothing less than beefy... :steak:

With regard to the hood clearance problem, a minute or two to remove the jack is probably a minor inconvenience compared to whatever necessitates popping the hood.

I did something similar too. The difference was that I used 5/8 all thread rod. I had to grind two sides of the top of each rod to fit in the high lift holes as they are actually 1/2" slots.

As to the hood clearing I had to go with the height pictured below (I think the rod is 6 inches total) and have to be sure the jack is all the way forward when I bolt it to the rod (your square washers might prevent this).
