LOS ANGELES Toyota's Tacoma and Mitsubishi's Raider pickup trucks star in spots that debut during tonight's telecast of ABC's Monday Night Football.
Publicis Groupe's Saatchi & Saatchi in Torrance, Calif., unveils a spot in which young men partying in the desert accidentally tape a meteor striking a Tacoma.
After recovering from the shock blast, the boys whoop it up when they see the truck emerge apparently unscathed, except for losing its payload of exploded ATVs.
Torrance-based Toyota spent $80 million last year advertising the Tacoma, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.
Unit sales were up 22 percent in August and 3 percent on the year, with sales of over 110,000 trucks, according to Car Concepts, Thousand Oaks, Calif.
