    Default flatbed fuel filler recommendations

    Hello Everyone,

As usual when I have a random automotive question this is where I go. After installing my flatbed I just bolted my stock fuel filler to the edge of the bed and called it good. In addition to looking janky, sometimes when I fill up it will "burp" and shower me with fuel. Usually on the way to work when I am in uniform. I digress. I would like to install a proper filler but don't know exactly how to go about it.

I was thinking using a marine grade angled gas filler like this:

Mount it to a plate that would then bolt to the bed. Are there any considerations for this I haven't thought of? Any general safety recommendations? I assume the more empty the tank the better, and the cooler the weather the better. Thanks.

There is a specific angle or range of angles for late model fuel dispensers to work properly with. TransferFlow refers to it as the "Beta Angle" though I don't know if this is their name for it, or if this is the industry wide name.

One way to get that angle fairly easily would be to use the "pocket" sold for Jeeps, YJ's in particular. They are designed to fit flat to a vertical surface and have the filler at the right angle. Could use a Jeep fill neck, a TransferFlow neck, or a junk yard sourced neck.
Here's one such "pocket" in Stainless:

I've seen them available in black, but didn't find any with a quick search.
I used to swerve around my hallucinations, now I drive right through them.

Thank you for the link. I have considered the jeep pockets as well. I have ssen the marine models for both angled and flat applications but after that the information gets sketchy. Maybe I just ned to find a jeep to pillage.

I will up load a picture and let you know where it ended up. Maybe a new thread. I've never done the picture thing before so let me start and see what happens.

Well, I guess the file is to big. I am waiting on a catalytic converter to be delivered for the truck. Once I get it on, I can move it outside for a couple of pictures. It should be here in the next couple of days. Thanks
