What's your timeline, and what's your zip code? I have both a OEM lunette and a manufactured "stub" I could sell. They are heavy of course, and I don't have washers, springs, or castle nuts. I think the castle nut size is 7/8-14.

PM me when you have a chance...

What are the stubs made from?

They are 1018 steel. They started out as 2" round stock, so most of their 20" length is just that.

One of them we slipped inside a 2" square x 1/4" wall piece of stock, welded, and welded a coupler to the end.

This is the one we made:

I could probably have skipped the square tube and welded the coupler right to the round stock. I could not find a 2" coupler with a 2" channel to weld to at the time, just 2-1/2 inch channel. The 12" of square stock was really overkill, I certainly could have used 6" instead. It ended up being 36" from the center of the "ball" to the front of the trailer. I reused the nut, spring, and washer.

So, if my estimates are close, if the lunette eye were cut off at the base of the loop where it meets the shaft, the stub that you manufactured would be ~8 inches longer. Is that close?

What would you need for one of those? (If they are for sale)

8" longer is what we figured too.

I have to call the shop to see what making a few (10) at a time would cost, if there was interest enough to do a small run. These were quoted at about $100 each to me, IIRC. I suppose a run of 10 would be less cost per each, as some of the cost was setup time.

It is hard to justify the cost for most people, as opposed to cutting the lunette that is on the trailer. I just did not want to cut a piece of history that could not easily be replaced.

BTW, the 20" length was based on a total ball-to-trailer box distance of 36", so jackknifing was less of a concern. If I had more made, I'd probably ask for 24" overall.

I should probably start a new thread...sorry JPNCA, at least you keep rising to the top!

Nice I'll PM you. I'm in smoky S. CA. Did you just have a machine shop mill them down for ya? I plan on a 2" ball thats why I didnt care if it was cut.
I would not mind one 12" over if they are being made
