    Default SVT Raptor

    http://www.popularmechanics.com/blog...s/4314780.html

So how about downfitting a truck? A regular F150 cab be outfitted to about a 3000 pound payload. The Raptor is rated at 1000 pounds. Can I add airbags and maintain the 10 inch wheel travel when unloaded?

It is more of a race truck not a work truck.
Soft springs and no low range etc.

A cool truck for prerunning and chasing but thats about it. Not to mention they are sold out and with the much higher pricetag, you're better off buying a truck and putting a really nice suspension on it and still come out cheaper.

These can be ordered on Xplan, which I think is invoice. While it is designed to jump, the designers made it clear that it's an all around off road truck. I don't see anything in the mods that aren't a plus.

Let's do a bolt on example. You can get an 08 Dodge 1500 for $25k for tons of bells and whistles. From there, a set of gears (if you want) are $1k installed, tires are another $1200 and the Kore kit with a set of Deavers is $3499 (10 inches of travel and warrantied by Dodge). This will get you well under the price tage of +$38k while still giving you more coin to add lots of other goodies to the truck.

Now if you took that same 08 1500 and wanted to put on a custom suspension, you could get +12 inches of travel and still be under the $38k pricetag.

Don't get me wrong, I think the raptor is a great truck off the lot and there isn't another truck that can touch its capabilities stock but with the budget minded people out there, its a pricy truck.

also need rear locker, skid plates, fender flairs, running boards, cast aluminum wheels . The front end has heavy control arms and steering mods that aren't going to come with a lift kit. The electronic mods just can't be done.

A newer used truck with all the meaningful mods would cost the same or more.

Oh, it does have 4L. To engage the rear locker the 2H/4H/4L knob is pulled out. The locker works at any speed in any mode. It also has hill decent speed control, like a Range Rover.

A normal airbag will not work, they have very little travel.

Carli suspension sells airbags with 12 inches of travel. They do Fords and Dodges and could probably make what you need.

Locker aside, the rest could be done for cheap (minus the running boards, seriously?!?!) The Kore kit is not a lift, its a suspension, check it out to see what all it comes with. I still find it hard to think that with spending $13k that you wouldn't be able to come up with a better truck than a stock Raptor.

Or hell, you could buy a used 05 2500 5.9 for $20k (that'd be my truck that I bought 3 months ago) and put a Carli 3.0 system on it with all the bells and whistles and still have $8k left for fiberglass, tube bumper, lockers, 37's, long arms....

I guess what I'm really getting at, for an offroad vehicle, $38k is a lot to spend and you can make a vehicle that will over preform that for much cheaper, whether it be a dodge, chevy, ford, jeep, etc etc.
