I can almost guarantee you'd feel cramped in the standard-length Columbus. The long version would be a much better choice.

Agreed.

Love, love, love the Columbus. I'm 6'-ish and had to sleep at a slight angle so my feet weren't wedged at the hinged end. Great RTT though, highly recommended.

Ya I slept in the kids size small Maggiolina Sat night. I woke up feeling like I was in a torture chamber.:violent-smiley-031: Every time I rolled over either my hands or feet were caught up in the lifting arms.:REOutShootinghunter

I'm sure I need a XL for sure. Anybody have one in the North East US that I could lay in before buying one. The local distributor(750 miles away ) will not uncrate it for me to try unless I pay for it first.:Wow1:

I'd like to lay down in the $3800 bed before I buy it! Is that so out of line?

Your distributor should be able to help you fnd a customer willing to show you their tent before you buy. If they won't call me and I will see if I can help.

The Maggiolina and Columbus XL models are identical to the standard models, but 8" longer, which translates to about 6' 9 " of mattress length. We have Maggiolina XL available now in small, but no Columbus XL tents. We expect a shipment to arrive in mid-April and should be able to ship shortly after arrival.

Did you bring in some Columbus Medium XLongs?
I'm going to see what shipping from you to me would cost.
What is the weight on a Columbus Med Xlong? Are they still @ $2999?
Do you have any East Coast dealers?

Hey WillysWagon,

I'm 6'4" and have a standard length medium Columbus. The length is fine for me because I sleep on my side. If you sleep on your back and sleep with your head in the high side, your toes will touch the roof.

I was with some friends that also have Columbus tents and we were talking about cold weather. All of us would reverse and have our heads in the low side, seems warmer that way.

Mike at AutoHomeUS may not be able to help you find someone up in Prifnce Edwards Isle to show you a tent, the Canadians who work with Mike usually will come down to the states to pick up a tent. Shipping these tents is a real pain. They are packed in foam, put into a double walled cardboard box, then crated. I wouldn't be surprised if the packing weighs more than the tent. I know it takes me at least 20 minutes to unpack all this stuff. I would not want to have to repack it all, probably why the dealer hesitates to do this for you.

It is a little bit of a blind purchase, AutoHome is always improving the tents so the new ones are always a little different. The technology is pretty much the same throughout the line. For example, the fiberglass process is the same with the Maggiolina and Columbus. The foam mattress is the same only the Columbus is a little lighter and thinner. If you don't like the Maggiolina's, you will not be happy with the one in the Columbus. It is a good quality polyurathane foam, you may want to put in a latex or something better down the line. The main difference is on course the way they open and the space inside. Because of this the Columbus uses a more water repellant fabric, Airtex, a PTFE lined fabric, so it still breathes.

Thanks for the enlightenment Lemsteraak. Now I see why shipping is such a pain. I may have to take it on the nose and go pick it up and try it on the spot. The standard length columbus was not big enough for me to spend 50 nights in a row in.
I wasn't expecting to find anyone around here to have one. I was hoping someone in the NE US may be able to show me theirs.

When I went to have my medium Maggiolina installed March of 2008, it was still in the crate.
Talk about HUGE!
They really pack them good to prevent movement and any damage.

We now build a sturdy shipping crate around every tent that we deliver by truck. We have near zero shipping damage. Prior we could expect about one in five to have some damage. Incredibly expensive and time consuming to bring the damaged tent back, replace with a new tent and reship, apply for damages with the freight company, etc. It also makes for unhappy customers when something is damaged in transit.

Our inventory is in factory cartons at the warehouse. We like to keep them packaged prior to shipment. The crating and packaging adds approximately 100 lbs to the weight of the tent.
