In my experience, true sinewave is the way to go, I have too much sensitive electronic stuff (some of which I have blown up such as a small battery charger for power tools and an IBM laptop powersupply, both failures were traced back to a modified sinewave (xantrex) inverter.I am not blaming the xantrex itself because I use one in my worktruck to power emergency lights and a grinder but the modified sinewave output.When running the grinder on modified sinewave you can tell by how it sounds and the fact that it heats up faster (shorter duty cycle).
