white out is just a marketing ploy these days. by driving around white out, you are basically free advertising.
i just chose black out today. looks better too IMO

White out looks cool, it just doesn't last.
I think it depends on the vehicle. An older vehicle looks tons better with white letters out than a newer vehicle does. That is until you turn it into a true 4x4, then its all about the black walls baby! Too hard to keep clean, the white wears off when you hit the rocks, and the company isn't paying me to advertise for them.
A long time ago working for 4 Wheel Parts we got exceptional deals on Pro Comp tires (because they own the brand), so when you got the "deal" (buy 2 at cost, get 2 free, at the time it was like $240 for a set of 4 MT's with that deal) you had to run white letters out because the discount was for you to run & advertise for them.

I think white out on a trail driven wagon looks ghetto....
However, when I bought my FJ62 last year, it was a 1989 time capsule. Original owner, all Toyota parts used it's entire life, still running the 225/75/15 stock Michelin LTXs, white letters out.
So when I needed 2 new tires this year I got 2 new LTXs and mounted the white letters out. Retro I know. So if I could just find that box of cassette tapes.....

On my Tacoma (which I use exclusively for wheeling) the white letters are in. On my White FJ62, I put the white letters out. I think it looks clean, and pretty cool.

Does it matter, just go drive the crap out of it and they will rub off.
